Top 10 Best Disney Princess Outfits

One thing probably every girl, and some boys love about Disney movies is the gorgeous style of the Disney ladies. Always feminine, pretty, detailed, and tailored to the story's point in time, every fan has their favourites. There's a reason why so many little girls wanted to dress up in versions of these dresses/clothes every year. I decided to compile a list of my personal favourites from all the Disney movies, I have only included those of the official princesses in my list even though I am quite partial to Megara's grecian purple goddess like gown in Hercules and Esmarelda's red number she rocks in the festival of fools scene of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. However, the can't really compare to the regal/beautiful outfits of the official Princesses in my opinion. So here the pretty picks are

10. Cinderella's pink and white dress made for her by the mice to attend the ball. I love this particular dress because of how rare it is to see on merchandise, the pretty detail in it and I also love the idea behind it's creation. My favourite aspect of this outfit is the accessories and the off the shoulder detailing. The scene in which the stepsisters rip the dress and pearls from Cinderella and ruin it has to be one of the most upsetting Disney scenes for me, the slow transition of the background of this scene into Jungle red is really effective also.


9. Elsa's ice blue gown from Frozen. The scene in which Elsa transforms herself in a stunning Ice Queen is wonderful for several reasons, the really well done animation, the epic "Let it Go" song and of course, her spectacular gown and cape combination. The dress itself is so slinky and stylish, it's probably something you could picture some Hollywood it girl wearing on the red carpet of the Oscars. The slit and off the shoulder look are really fashionable and my favourite touch is the purple eyeshadow and highlighting of her make up, the animators really went all out with her style detail and it pays off.

8. Pocahontas' outfit. It's kind of a rare thing in the 1990's Disney movies that the female lead character doesn't have at least one outfit change. Turns out Pocahontas didn't need one because her Native American ensemble is cute enough for the entire movie. I saw this movie in the cinema as a child and I fell in love with the necklace Pocahontas' father gives her that once belonged ot her mother. It really completes the whole look. Pocahontas really has the 90s amazonian supermodel look which I'm sure was intentional, so the knee length/one shoulder style of her dress is perfect for her, and I can see why it's a popular Halloween costume to this day.

 

7. Snow White's multi coloured dress. This is one of the most iconic Disney outfits. The colours are really gorgeous and eye catching and I feel that choosing yellow and blue as the main ones for the first full length animated feature was the ideal choice as they really pop off the screen. The cut of the dress is very appropriate with the setting of the film, which is supposed to be West Germany. I love her caped sleeves as well as my favourite parts which are her little red hair band with the bow on top and the cute kitten heels with their little bows, I have had several pairs of similar style pomps and I don't think they ever go out of fashion or stop being cute so good job to the animators for including them!

6. Ariel's pink dress from her first land dinner. I absolutely loved this look as a child, and if it were an 8 year old me I probably would have picked it as number one. For whatever reason (how pink the whole look was) I really do love this look. I think when Eric looks at Ariel as she's coming into the dining room in that scene and the fact that it's the first time you see the character in a gown is another reason why I adore it so much.The best part of this entire look for me is her hair clip and earrings. So pretty and lovely.

5. Sleeping Beauty (Aurora)'s colour changing Birthday gown. This dress is the only dress in this list that is used in the film's story as a comedic foil. The fair godmother's argument over whether to have it pink or blue, and the fact that even during the final dance scene of the film they are still disagreeing and using their magic to change it is a charming touch and a nice little bit of animation during that final sequence. Personally, I tend to agree with Merryweather and prefer the gown blue. It's a very sleek gown and the design of it really suits the time period in which it's set. I also am very fond of Aurora's hair and her crown with it, probably the most simplistic of all the Disney princess gowns and one of the loveliest. 

 

4. Jasmine's blue outfit in Aladdin. This look, is sexy, I mean for a cartoon anyway. The off the shoulder crop top being the main reason for that. It's also extremely pretty and a gorgeous shade of blue/green and those pants look really comfortable! Jasmine's head dress is the best part of her outfit to me. As a child I had a headband just like it and I used to always put it on and pretend to be in Aladdin while watching the movie in my sitting room. I have to make special mention of her red "slave" outfit she wears in the sequence with Jafar as sultan, I probably prefer it's colour to her original outfit, but I figured it would be controversial to pick something she didn't chose to wear for herself, so I went with the blue ensemble, still an excellent choice and appropriate for an Arabian princess.

3. Belle's golden yellow gown from the Tale As Old As Time scene in Beauty and the Beast. This scene is one of the most iconic in Disney history and a big part of that is the outfits worn by the Beast and Beauty Belle's off the shoulder gown with the Bell skirt is so glamorous and spectacular.Her up do hair, her long gloves, her earrings and head band, are all so exquisite. I also particularly enjoying seeing the movement and animation of the gown during the 2 characters dance to Angela Lansbury's rendition of the iconic song. Truly lovely stuff.

2. Ariel's silver sparkling dress from the final sequence of The Little Mermaid. In this scene, everything is perfect together, the rising reprise of Part of Your World in the background, the way King Triton lovingly looks as his daughter as she excitedly runs into her Prince's arms. It's so wonderful, and the outfit that Ariel emerges from the ocean in is just amazing. I think the reason I love it so much is because it's something I would probably wear myself if I got the chance, and I think most girls, especially the Disney ones would agree.

1. Cinderella's blue/pale blue cap sleeved gown. This for me is the epitome of a Disney princess gown. When the gown appears on the screen for the first time it is one of the most delightful pieces of animation I've ever seen. The whole look from the black choker, to the long gloves and of course her glass slippers is iconic. Also, I feel that the idea of a girl being transformed and given this stunning gown and the opportunity to go to a glamorous exciting ball for the night is something most little girls dream of and that gown was the perfect one for that dream. 

Moana Review

Moana (2016) My Review ★★★★★

My boyfriend and I went to see Disney's new film Moana last night at our local cinema. The movie is animated and features the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Auli'i Cravalho and Nicole Scherzinger. Before I talk about this movie I have to mention the short at the beginning of the film. Whenever I go to see any Disney animated production I always forget and then am pleasantly surprised when Mickey in Steamboat Willy pops up whistling and then a short begins. This one was entitled, Inner Workings and it was so good! I won't give away too much about it, but there's one point half way through the short that I actually found myself tearing up and getting really ovwhelmed. So needless to say, it was very touching and I really hope it is in with a shot for the Best Animated Short at the Academy Awards 2017.

Now, onto Moana. The plot is kind of standard Disney fair in that it's about a young girl going on an adventure, Dwayne Johnson's character even makes a little joke about the whole "princess on a mission" story line which I really enjoyed. The story centers on a young girl who is about to become the Chief of her people on an Island in Ancient Polynesia, when she is chosen by the Ocean to go on a mission and restore the heart of a god so her Island's crops will keep growing and fish will return to near their land. During this mission she meets the Demi God who stole the Heart in the first place. I won't say anything more about the plot because I don't want to spoil anything for anybody reading.

My overall feeling about this film was that it was pretty wonderful. There are so many amazing aspects to it, not least of all the animation, which is probably the best I've seen Disney do, it is just so realistic. I in particular love the water Animation, which as any Disney fan knows has proved difficult to get right for animators ever since the making of Pinocchio. The female lead & title character Moana is one of the most independent and fearless Disney girls since Mulan, and even better because she's not trying to "be a man", and doesn't have to end up with one, she's just doing what she can to save her home and loved ones. The Demi God, Maui voiced by The Rock himself (and honestly they picked the perfect man to play this guy) provides some really great banter moments and also one of the more heartbreaking plot points in the whole film. The laughs come mainly from Moana's pet chicken, who I think would remind everybody of some dopey hapless pet they've had at one time or another. There is also a hilarious scene with Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clement voicing a jewel obsessed Crab.

What shines most in this movie however for me was the music, it was so effective and beautifully sung, I particularly loved the song How Far I'll Go, which was really rousing, particularly it's reprise towards the end of the film. I don't believe the film was have as huge an appeal to kids as Frozen, however much it deserves it which is unfortunate. Overall, I would give Moana 5 out of 5 stars, one of the best Disney films I've seen in the past 10 years, beautifully animated with fun likable characters and a really effective ending sequence. A must see for all Disney lovers!
